Items that belong in another room often become permanent furniture. A mug waits on the desk, a charger stays beside the sofa, and a book travels halfway home before stopping.
A transfer basket creates one temporary destination for things that need to move, without asking you to complete every trip immediately.
Choose one route
Use a shallow basket, tray, or handled bag in a place you already pass. It should be large enough for a few items and small enough to notice when it is full. One basket is usually enough; several become another sorting system.
Load by destination, not object type
Put the remote, notebook, socks, and cable together if they all need to travel upstairs. The basket is not a category. It is a queue for the next physical transfer.
Move when you already have a reason
Carry the basket when you are going that direction for another reason. Do not make a special trip every time an item enters it. If a destination is rarely visited, choose one predictable transfer moment.
Set a full-basket rule
When the basket is full, stop adding items and make one transfer, ask for help, or return items to their current homes. A full basket is a signal to act, not permission to start a larger sorting project.
Restart with three items
If the basket has become a pile, remove three items that belong on your next route. Put the rest back where they are for now. A transfer system is working when it shortens movement, not when every object is perfectly placed.
